Miss Marple: Murder at the Vicarage
Adapted from the Novel The Murder at the Vicarage by Rick Robinson
April 10 - June 7
‘Anyone who murdered Colonel Protheroe,’ declared the parson, brandishing a carving knife above a joint of roast beef, ‘would be doing the world at large a favour!’ A careless remark which was to come back and haunt the clergyman just a few hours later – when the colonel was found shot dead in the clergyman’s study. One of Agatha’s greatest sleuths, Miss Marple, takes the stage for the first time and she soon discovers the whole village seems to have had a motive to kill Colonel Protheroe…
Content Guide
If Miss Marple were a movie, it would be rated PG-13 due to adult situations, theatrical violence and discussion of murder.

What keeps the audience fascinated is the ever-evolving story with its many twists and turns, and the performances of the actors, especially Barret O’Brien as Reverend Clement and Terry Bamberer the willowy, keenly observant Miss Marple. Fittingly, the play marks the first time both have appeared at the Cabaret, and the play is the first Miss Marple story performed on the Cabaret stage. “Murder” features a strong supporting cast, especially Tyler Ward Lemons, who is visually the perfect Inspector Slack.
The Oregon Cabaret Theatre’s executive director, Rick Robinson, took up Agatha Christie’s demure sleuth for the company’s current production, “Miss Marple: Murder at the Vicarage.” His adaptation is truly excellent with plenty of witty lines and ongoing situations that lighten the mood — such as the vicar’s disdain for his maid and cook, Mary.
Agatha Christie’s “Miss Marple: Murder at the Vicarage,” another in a series of the author’s refined, British whodunnits, has pulled up in style and parked itself at the Oregon Cabaret Theatre
“Murder” is directed by Cabaret co-founder Paul Barnes, who is making his return to the Cabaret for the first time in more than a decade. Barnes has created a sharply tuned production, one that moves swiftly and precisely, and keeps the audience involved and guessing.
Director Paul Barnes, one of the cabaret’s founding talents — and this is season 41 — did an impressive job of putting this entirely new adaptation together.
With a penchant for horticulture and an annoying habit for not accepting the obvious, Ms. Marple first comes across as a spinsterish busy-body.In actuality, she possesses a disarming nature, a talent for keen observation, and an uncanny knack for solving crime. Thank you actor Terry Bamberger. If ever there was a true likeness to a character, you have found it.
What fun! Oregon Cabaret Theater delivers a tight, upbeat, perfectly acted light murder mystery on a set that is beautiful and flexible with actors clothed in perfected finery. Five Stars out of Five.
